Jan. 17th is quickly approaching. Somehow it has snuck up on me. What is Jan. 17th? I’m glad you asked. Jan. 17th is the day that I board the big bird headed for Brazil with five friends (four of who are from Lifepoint: Joe Carr, Arimar Carr, Brad Barbour, June Wynne).
So what’s in Brazil? In a word: Ubuana. That’s it. One small word. One small town. A town so small I can’t even find it on Google maps. It’s rediculous. I am going to a place that I can’t even pinpoint on Google maps.
So what’s in Ubuana? I’ll be able to tell you more once I get back. Here is what little bit I know:
Approximately 1500 people.
Extreme poverty–No industry/work.
No mention of Jesus–Only staunch Catholicism and Makumba (voodoo)
Very large bugs.
Scorpions that drop from the ceiling on you.
Lots of rice and beans.
Very skimpy bathing suits. (more so in Fortaleeza…brad is looking forward to this!) j/k.
One massive language barrier.
One HUGE need for someone to tell them about Jesus!
I have the privilege to be apart of a team that is going to feed, clothe, educate, and share Jesus with this entire village. Hundred’s of children will be waiting each morning for us to spend the day with them doing crafts, telling stories, singing songs, playing games. In the evening we’ll be putting on programs for the families to hear about Jesus. It’s gonna be great.
Start Praying! If you haven’t already, here are a few things for you to focus on.
- For God to prepare hearts in Ubuana.
- For many to come to trust Jesus.
- For leaders in the town to emerge.
- For safe travels for our team.
- For comfort and protection for our families while we’re gone.
- For God to crush our hearts.
- For a vision of how Lifepoint can partner with Ubuana.
- For God to overcome language barriers.
- For our team to not get sick.
- For unity among our team.
- For strength and energy.
- For our LUGGAGE to make the trip.
- For Lifepoint while we’re gone.
- For scorpoins to not fall on me while I sleep in my hammock under my mosquito net.
- For the name of Jesus to become famous in Ubuana.
- For us to get good video footage to share when we get back.
- For Lifepoint to get absolutely JACKED UP about reaching the world for Jesus.

I am going to pray this specific prayer: (1) That the lives of the people you minister to will be so changed that when you leave they will not be satisfied with how it was before you came. (2) That your lives will be so changed by what you witness the Holy Spirit accomplish through you, that you will not be satisfied for anything less when you return. Either way, you will have my prayers!
Jeff – you and your team are so awesome! I’m so proud of all of you and wish that I had that much courage. My prayers are with you for a safe journey… I know you will be forever changed by this trip. I look forward to hearing all the stories and when I have trouble quieting my head at night… I’ll just think about you and the drums that I hope get more quiet as your time there ends.
