Make It Your Own

This is the first Principle from THE STARBUCKS EXPERIENCE.

Each partner (employee) at starbucks is given a green apron and in the pocket of that apron is a small book called the “green apron book.” Creative title. In this book are what Starbucks calls the “Five Ways of Being.” Here they are:

  • Be Welcoming–Offer everyone a sense of belonging
    • “While most individuals would not think of inviting guests into their home, only to ignore them, many business leaders fail to make their companies equally inviting.”
  • Be Genuine–Connect, dicover, and respond
    • “We are not in the coffee business serving people, but in the people business serving coffee.”
    • “Customers aren’t looking for best friends; they just want a positive connection, and they want their needs to matter. They resent being treated as if they were just wallets with humans attached.”
  • Be Considerate–”is less about being polite and more about being mindful of the needs of others while creating win/win situations. It should empower you to act in ways that consider the needs of others.”
  • Be Knowledgable–love what you do, and share your knowledge with others.
  • Be Involved–No matter how large or small a company is, it can become an asset to the community it serves.
    • “People want to be apart of something bigger than themselves. They want to be part of something that touches their hearts.”

how incredible of an impact would we have if the church was this way. i am amazed that churches don’t make this their policy enough. we have such an advantage to spread jesus to people.

If only all companies, organizations, employers, employees, and people, (myself included) would adopt this approach toward everyone they meet. What a different world it would be! I truly believe that our church is really making an effort to make this happen at Lifepoint. Keep it up!
