Have you ever been asked a stupid question? Life is full of them. Nobody is prone from asking stupid questions. Jesus even threw out a few. Here is one of my favorites.
Jesus stumbles across a guy who has been paralyzed for 38 years laying next to a pool. This is no ordinary pool. It was believed that once a year an angel would stir the water and the first person in the pool would be healed. This is great…if you’re not paralyzed. Every year this poor guy would wait by the pool for someone to push him in. No luck…until Jesus comes along. I love the question Jesus asks the paralyzed man, “Would you like to get well?” What kind of stupid question is that? No thanks! I think I’ll just lay here for another 38 years!
So here’s what happens. Jesus miraculously heals the guy and an interesting thing happens. While people should be celebrating the Jewish leaders were indignant because this happened on the Sabbath. They were upset because the once paralyzed man was carrying his mat on the Sabbath! HELLO!
Religious people always miss the miracle for the rules.
A man who had been paralyzed for 38 years was healed and they didn’t care.
Never allow the way it’s always been done to blind you to the way it is being done. God is doing a new thing.
Interestingly though the stupid religious people were’nt mad at the man but at Jesus. Jesus responds to the people by saying, “My Father is always work and so am I.”
Question:
What stupid question would Jesus ask me if I would listen?
What stupid question do I need to ask about my ministry?
Am I willing to break a few rules so that people can meet Jesus?
