After my recent posts about looking forward to the iphone release in two days, I have received several emails redirecting me to websites that talk about why this new revolutionary communication device will be a bomb. I expected this. You see anytime someone steps out to innovate someone else steps out to shoot them in the back.
I’m sure you’ve heard rumors about the “First Gen” curse. This is where a company releases a product and the “first generation” product tends to have bugs and glitches to work through. I understand this is a risk. I guess my response would be:
I would rather deal with the “first gen” curse than never have a “first gen” product. Of course you could play it safe and never innovate and always play runner up on technology but I’m pretty sure microsoft has requested that role. Anyway, just had to vent.
P.S. PC folks, hows Vista working out for you?
I keep hearing all these specs about the 2nd gen. iPhone, wow alot more stuff. I may hold out for it….I don’t want to repeat my ‘nano’ mistake
For being such an Apple fan, you seem to react like the chubby, PC guy on the Apple commercials. Did you create the iPhone? Do you own stock in Apple? You sure are defensive when it comes to something that you don’t own. “First Gen” devices are great if the buyer has the temperament to handle glitches, software issues and constant updates. If you are getting down and defensive over comments made in articles about a PHONE, you should wait to buy your iPhone. It sounds like it may not be for you.
Some people will always be followers. It’s like that old Apple commercial, Apple is for people who lead and inovate. So yes, I guess Apple will always have more 1st gen things that we buy because we’re the ones that push ahead. You can always wait til everyone else catches up 5 years later. If you’re cool with that then follow on my friend! I’m glad I work with innovators!
If the type of phone or electronic device defines a person as a leader, then we desperately need to redefine leadership. We are not talking about Apple of 1983, we are discussing Apple of today. Apple is a major leader in electronics (iPod, Shuffle, OSX, etc) and commerce (iTunes), so let’s stop pretending that they are some underdog of yesteryear. Also, the word innovation (innovator) is being used very loosely in this discussion. Innovation typically adds value or improvements to original, relevant, products, processes, or services. How are you being unique, innovative or a leader by following everyone else to the nearest AT&T store on Friday. The issue, criticism or skepticism is more about the price of the phone and AT&T’s network, not a personal campaign against an individual or group.
Is Lifepoint innovative? Absolutely! Why? Because they do things a little different. But let’s not confuse leadership and electronics. The first time I heard Jeff speak in September, 2006, he discussed being a leader and not following the crowd. Step out…be different. Steve Jobs is the innovator here, everyone else is just a consumer.
By the way Jeff, Vista is running great. Thanks for asking.
