Trust

Trust is an interesting thing.

  • You don’t realize it when you have it.
  • You can lose it.
  • When you lose it, it is almost impossible to get back.
  • You can place it in a million different things.
  • You can live with it or without it.
  • It’s easy to have when you have nothing.

While reading this passage today I was reminded of a time just before we launched Lifepoint when our TRUST was tested.  We were sitting at a coffee shop talking with a consultant about purchasing equipment for our up and coming church plant.  The consultant asked us what our budget was…we sat up straight and said, “we don’t have a budget…we don’t want to limit God.”  Now the reality was that we had no clue and no money.  It was easy for us to talk a big game because when you have nothing you have nothing to lose.  The difficulty is when you have something because then you have something to lose.  It’s easy to “bet the farm” when you don’t even have a farm!

So we got our quote on equipment, negotiated out the items that weren’t necessary to launch and  had four days to raise $22,000 which was a 1/3 of our equipment cost, and to place the order.  We learned something during that period…God can be trusted.  I know it sounds elementary but until your back is up against a wall or a deadline, and you don’t have what it takes to make it happen then, I don’t think you really know what it means to TRUST.  Sure enough God provided the money, we ordered the equipment, the church launched on time and the rest is history.

Here’s  the tricky part.  It’s easy to trust when you have nothing but what happens when you fast forward a year and a half.  What happens when you have more people, more equipment, more staff, and more bills?  Now what/who do you trust?  Do you now function off of what you have or what God is calling you to do?

For us, God continually calls us to move out of our comfort zone and into an “OH CRAP MOMENT!” For some reason God doesn’t let us get too comfortable.  He always moves us toward the next step where our TRUST in Him is evident.  That is exactly what is taking place this fall and why I am so jacked up about these big annoucements I get to make next week!

Seriously, take some time to read this today.

Here is the last verse:

“The eyes of the Lord search the whole Earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”–2 Chronicles 16:9

[...] Kapusta got me with a one-two punch today as I reviewed Bloglines for his latest entries. The first one was about the issue of trusting God and how his church has learned to trust deeply and more. [...]
