Craig Groeschel is one of the influences that God is using to speak into my life. He has a humble authenticity about him that I find exremely rare. Craig has written a new book called “Going All The Way.” This book is about Godly relationships and preparing for a marriage that goes the distance. It goes on sale Oct. 2nd.

Why is it that everything has to have a sexual tone to draw attention to a book or message. The picture and wording (Going all the way in BOLD letters) draws up other images other than making a marriage work. Jeff no offense to the book or the author (I am sure the book editor came up with the title) but why do we need to bombard our young youth with slogans and pictures like this! I am sure there are many other titles and pictures for this book. I am sure this book’s (by Jeff’s opinion) contents and merrits should be enough to sell and get the message out just as well, right?? Am I the only one who see this trend happening?? Just because the world seems to be desensitized to this type of advertising doesnt mean our religious authors need to do the same.
I am sorry to rain on your excitement of this book Jeff but I have been married for 17 years and a father of 2 from a different generation that is tired of this type of advertising that our children must see everyday. Call me what you want but wanting my children exposed less to this is wrong then call me wrong or call me old fuddy-d-duddy i dont care. Switch the title around and it looks and feels much better “Planing for a Marriage” in bold then under in small print that goes all the way. You cant tell me this changes it all and it want sell or attract this demographic audiance they are shooting for, right? It is all about delivering and selling the product today. The purpose driven book sells, what a million a week with a title that doesnt leave an open door to a sexual content.

Visit the local Christian bookstore. there are skads of books regarding the topic of beginning and maitaining marriage with more tame titles than this one. I’m not sure that they are being purchased, but even if they are they don’t seem to be making much of an impact on society. Groeschel’s cleverness in titling his book in this manner is not to be provocative, but to use young people’s vernacular to express two meanings. The first one is the one that people’s mind will automatically be drawn to, but the other; that few marriages ever “go all the way” to the finish. We do have a better than 50% divorce ratio in this country. Which is more tiresome….which is more offensive…which is the higher priority? If I thought it was done just to be provocative, then maybe I could agree more with Larry (and I often am offended too), but in this case I don’t think its the case.

I have to thank you for posting this. I’ve been looking for the clip for a while, and couldn’t remember the message series. Now it’s a book… I’m offended by the sheer number of Christian “help books” but this one I actually see a point in.
