Our staff is currently working through John Maxwell’s, “Developing the Leader Within You.” The following really stood out to me:
Paradoxical Commandments of Leadership
- People are illogical, unreasonable and self-centered. Love them anyway.
- If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Do good anyway.
- If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
- The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
- Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.
- The biggest men with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men with the smallest minds. Think big anyway.
- People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
- What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
- People really need help, but may attack you if you do help them. Help them anyway.
- Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway.

Mark J added these kind words on Jun 03 08 at 4:46 pmYou should have a contest to see who can match the biblical verses with these quotes.
Steph added these kind words on Jun 04 08 at 4:18 pmI have the book that these came out of written by Kent M. Keith named “The paradoxical commandment.” It’s a good read and goes into some more details about each one.
Loretta added these kind words on Jun 04 08 at 5:50 pmI used to have a big poster up on my wall that was very similar to this. It was ripped in half during a move and I taped it up and it was good as new! That is a pretty good contest idea Mark. You wouldn’t happen to already have it ready would ya?
