Over the last several months it seems as if everyone has been talking about a book called, “The Shack.” I bought it off of Amazon two weeks ago and immediately lost it to my wife. She devoured it in less than two days which isn’t uncommon for her. However, she strongly recommended that I read it.
I’ve been reading it for the last few days and am at the half way point. I got to say, this book has me thinking. I have run through the gammut of emotions as well.
I came accross two quotes that are worth sharing from the book. Here goes:
(God/Papa speaking to Mackenzie) “I am what some would say ‘holy, and wholly other than you.’ The problem is that many folks try to grasp some sense of who I am by taking the best version of themselves, projecting that to the nth degree, factoring in all the goodness they can perceive, which often isn’t much, and then call that
God. And while it may seem like a noble effort, the truth is that it falls pitifully short of who I really am. I’m not merely the best version of you that you can think of. I am far more than that, above and beond all that you can ask or think.”
Here’s the second:
“A bird’s not defined by being grounded but by his ability to fly. Remember this, humans ar not defined by their limitations, but the intentions that I have for them; not by what they seem to be, but by everything it means to be created in my image.”
I can tell you man I read it this past week and I loved it. However, I have never gotten so much crap from people I went Seminary with calling it “Hersey” and “Doctrinally Incorrect” I’m glad to see that someone else has enjoyed it like I have. It made me think alot
I read this book a couple months ago. Great, great stuff. When you get done with that one, go ahead and pick up another one from the same publisher called “So You Don’t want to Go to Church Anymore?” Good book.
I have heard about it for weeks too and have been putting it off. Finally got it yesterday while killing time at BandN before Dark Knight. Excited!
I read this a few days ago and have been thinking about getting it to read. It looked awesome to me. Well my aunt came down to Florida today where I am and she started talking about this Fiction book she had been reading. I sat there thinking, “Naw, I bet it’s not, it can’t be..” And she pulled out this blue book, and sure enough it was the book! Can’t wait to really read it!
Half way through the book and really liking it, it is very engaging.
