I am excited to inform everyone that after 1 1/2 years of digging, the Kapusta family is finally DEBT FREE…almost! We received a surprise blessing when we found out we overpaid our taxes for 2008 and received a refund. Over the past two years we have paid off:
- A Mini-Van
- A Credit Card
- Another Credit Card
- A Credit Line
- School Loans
buy Gekijo-ban hagane no renkinjutsushi: Shanbara wo yuku mono buy Bill Maher: Be More Cynical
It is hard to believe that we have actually done it. Several years ago I thought that debt was normal. If debt is normal than the Kapusta’s are downright WEIRD! About the ALMOST part…here’s the deal. We still owe 80 cents on our school loans. We tried to pay it and the minimum you can pay is $1. So we tried to pay $1 and they said you cannot pay over what you owe. What to do… My vote is we send them $1 in the mail and tell them that we will bill them monthly until they pay us the remaining 20 cents. We will also charge them a $25 late fee for every month the balance is past due.
I want to thank several people for inspiring me to do this:
- Dave Ramsey. It was a few years ago at Catalyst when Dave Ramsey made me mad about finances. It was sitting at the conference that I finally had enough. Thanks Dave!
- Joe Sangl
. Joe Sangl is the guy I have to thank for putting feet to my passion. I knew I wanted out of debt but I had no idea how to do it. Joe mapped out a plan for my wife and I to follow. Joe also has tons of tools available on the Wildly Popular JoeSangl.com
. Thanks Joe!
- George Kapusta. My dad gave me inspiration along the way. I could tell that he was excited for me and it inspired me. Thanks Dad!
- Daryl Strickland
. I have to thank Daryl because he talked me off the ledge of making some stupid decision. I remember seriously wanting to buy a motorcycle and Daryl said, “Now don’t forget you told our church that you would be out of debt in a year.” Thanks Daryl.
- Michelle Kapusta. I have to say a huge THANK YOU to my wife for putting up with me. She is the one who said “no” most of the time. She stayed strong through all my tantrums and whining. My wife stayed on the course and it is why I am writing this blog today.
