My daughter asked me a question after our house was broken into a few weeks ago. She asked, “Daddy, if God protects us, then where was He when our house was being broken into?”
I jokingly responded, “Well baby, God was at Lifepoint saving people!”
Then I sat down with her and tried to explain that, yes, God is our protector but that doesn’t mean that bad things won’t happen. What it means is that when bad things do happen that He goes through them with us and comforts us. I told her that our world is filled with hurting people who end up hurting people. I’m sure that the person that broke into our house was probably dealing with a bunch of problems of their own.
What about you? Have you ever wondered, “Where was God?”
- Where was God when my parents split up?
- Where was God when my friend moved away?
- Where was God when spouse died?
- Where was God when my business went under?
- Where was God when I lost my scholarship?
These are heavy questions…ones I didn’t think my daughter would be asking just yet.
Psalm 23:4–4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
