Sunday Recap // 09.21.08
Today will go down as one of the greatest days in the histroy of Lifepoint. Today was our final day at Myrtle Grove Middle school. I knew it was going to be a powerful day when we called an audible a few weeks ago and began laying plans for today. Here are some of my thoughts.
- I couldn’t sleep much last night because I was too excited.
- I started balling like a baby before the service ever started. I was overwhelmed thinking about everything that God has done at this school.
- A friend walked up to me before the service and said that if it wasn’t for this place he and his wife wouldn’t be together. PRAISE GOD!
- God planted a powerful message into my heart a few weeks ago about Daniel.
- Big Idea: Take a Stand!
- I felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest during the first service.
- My message was supposed to be 15 minutes…I think it was more like 25.
- The gym at Myrtle Grove was electric!
- We gave people who have chosen to follow Jesus the opportunity to get baptized and 60 people took a stand!
- I got soaked!
- I can’t think of a better way to end our run at the Middle School.
- God was definitely in the house today.
- I got to baptize homeless, spouses who are fighting for their marriage, a young lady who just got out of prison, my two aunts from Pennsylvania…it was amazing!
- Watching Daryl baptize his son Philip was awesome. I can’t wait to baptize my kids.
- Drew and the band did an incredible job creating an atmosphere of celebration during the worship.
- the first service ran 15 minutes long and the second was 25 minutes…oops.
- We have people sign the baptistery..take a look

- Believe it or not but it was sad saying goodbye to our custodian Sam. He’s been good to us.
- I want to say thanks to Jill Barbour, my assistant for helping purchase everything to make this baptism happen.
- I also want to thank all the dream team members who help point people to Jesus today!
- This is a big week for Lifepoint.
- We move to Ashley High School this Sunday!
- We are giving away FREE GAS near the High School on Saturday morning.
- We have a 30,000 piece mailer going out this week.
- This is the last week of the Daniel Fast. I have enjoyed it but I think I hear fajitas calling my name.
Pray big prayers this Week! Our God is Able!
Here’s a pic of me and Daryl just after the second service
We are living a dream!

When you’re on mission, you’re on mission. When you aren’t, you attack those who are.
Why is that?

The reality that we are moving to Ashley High School in just two weeks is beginning to settle in, and I am getting more and more excited every day! In preparation for our move, the staff and I are spending 21 days taking part in a Daniel Fast. What is a Daniel Fast you ask? Great Question.
In the book of Daniel there are two instances where Daniel declines the opportunity to eat food from the king’s table in exchange for a diet of vegetables and water. It’s crazy! Just imagine turning down a thick and juicy prime rib for a bland vegetable medley! Read it for yourself in Daniel chapter 1. To make a long story short, Daniel relies on God to strengthen him and God does just that. After a ten day testing period, Daniel is not only healthy but he looks better than any of the guys eating the prime rib. Here’s the point: Daniel gave us something valuable to draw closer to God. As a staff, we have chosen the 21 days leading up to our move to Ashley to give up something we really like to grow closer to Jesus. During this 21 Day fast we have been reading through the book of John…it has 21 chapters. Yesterday’s reading came from John Chapter 9.
John 9 is the story of the blind guy who meets Jesus, gets mud on his face, takes a bath, and gets healed! I love this story. One small detail about this story that is commonly overlooked is the fact that this guy (with mud on his face) did exactly what Jesus told him to do. He walked by faith! He walked through the city to the pool of Siloam to wash. What is cool is that the miracle happened AFTER he was obedient. After he walked to the pool. After he washed the mud off his face. Right now, we as a church, are walking by faith (without the mud on our faces) believing that God is about to do a miracle. I’m excited to see what God does as His people humble themselves, sacrifice, and walk by faith!

Yes it’s Monday night and I’m just now getting around to the weekend recap. I know there is atleast one person out there who has been anxiously awaiting this post…and it’s not my mom. Things are in high gear here at lifepoint. Here’s a few thoughts from the weekend.
- We are definitely breaking set up/tear down records. No one took me up on my idea for a portable church olympics though.
- I can’t wait until we make the move to Ashley in two weeks.
- We have had some whacked sound issues the past few weeks while I’ve been speaking.
- Is it too much to ask people to silence their cell phones during the service? And while I’m on this rant…is an hour too long to hold your bladder??? I’m just saying…
- Attendance was great. We had 612. We have more kids in the first service than the second. Our second service has been all the way to the back wall.
- Did I mention we are moving to Ashley on the 28th?
- We are changing our service times on the 28th to 9AM and 11AM.
- We had 38 first time guest cards turned in.
- We had 9 people check off on the cards that they began a relationship with Jesus!
- God has been definitely changing lives at Lifepoint lately! I love being apart of it.
- Drew and the band absolutley nailed “There goes my hero” by the Foo Fighters!
- I’m loving this “at the movies series” Hancock made for a great talk.
- Huge thanks to Mark Johnson for cutting the grass at the school again!
- We have got atleast 10 homeless folks that are coming to Lifepoint. I love it. It’s cool seeing homeless people being loved and welcomed at church. One guy told me on Sunday that there is something different about this church. People don’t look down on him for how he dresses.
- I preached for 30 minutes this Sunday. I think it is a record.
- I was missing my Sunday morning coffee in a bad way. 1 banana, 2 apples, and an orange juice was my substitute.
- My oldest son was up before me and wanted to go to church to set up. I love that my kids love church!
That’s all I can remember for now.
